From school's space to the educational territory: The place of architecture in the discussion between the school of integral education and the city of Rio de Janeiro

Coordinated by professor Gisele Azevedo. This project, linked to the Culture, Landscape, and Built Environment research line of the Graduate Program in Architecture PROARQ-FAU / UFRJ, gives continuity and seeks to intertwine the knowledge produced by the research groups Environment-Education (GAE), Quality of Place and Landscape (ProLUGAR) and System of Open Spaces in Rio de Janeiro (SEL-RJ), related reflection on the quality of the place and the landscape of educational environments. Based on the joint application of the concepts, methods and research instruments used by the three groups does this research seek to integrate a network of knowledge around a common theoretical basis the pedagogical places, with a view to the elaboration of project guidelines and strategies as tools to support the design and evaluation of the school environment for Integral Education, integrating environmental, pedagogical, cultural and socio-economic aspects. By recognizing the educational potential of school environments, this research seeks to enrich the debate on the Integral Education movement that regains its strength in the current public education in Brazilian municipalities, collaborating with the construction of guidelines that underlie the conception of these new school environments. To this end, it broadens the understanding of this place-school considering the system of free spaces and other public facilities in the city as educational territories and an inseparable part of the pedagogical places
