Master

Academic Structure

PROARQ will offer mandatory and elective courses annually. Master's students must complete a minimum of 360 (three hundred and sixty) class hours, and doctoral students must complete 450 (four hundred and fifty) class hours, with the possibility of using 135 hours from previously completed master's coursework.
After completing the required hours, if the student has achieved a performance coefficient equal to or greater than 2.0 (two), has passed the Qualification Exam, and has published an article in a journal or at a national/international event in the field of Architecture and Urbanism, they will be eligible to defend their dissertation.

DEFENSE DEADLINES

ENROLLMENT UNTIL 2022

  • Qualification: The Qualification Exam for the Master’s Program must be taken within a period not exceeding 15 (fifteen) months from the date of enrollment.
  • Defense: The regular timeframe for the defense, from the date of enrollment in the master’s program, is 24 months. Extensions beyond this period will be allowed upon official and justified request from the advisor and the student, accompanied by the necessary documentation. The maximum extension period is up to 6 (six) months after the regular period.

ENROLLMENT FROM 2023 ONWARD

  • Qualification: The Qualification Exam for the master’s program must be taken within a period not exceeding 15 (fifteen) months from the date of enrollment.
  • Defense: The regular timeframe for the defense, from the date of enrollment in the master’s program, is 36 months, with the possibility to defend after 24 months of the program. Extensions beyond the regular 36 months will be allowed upon official and justified request from the advisor and the student, with proper documentation, for a maximum period of up to 6 (six) months after the regulatory deadline. Scholarship students must qualify within 15 months and defend within 24 months.

PANDEMIC EXTENSIONS (COVID-2019)

Defense deadlines for the 2019, 2020, and 2021 master's classes were suspended according to RES CEPG 06/2021. However, scholarship holders must follow the regular deadlines without changes.

  • Master’s Class 2020 → until 03/30/2024
  • Master’s Class 2021 → until 04/30/2025

ADVISORS AND CO-ADVISORS

The advisor must belong to the PROARQ's group of Permanent or Collaborating Professors. With the approval of the Program's Deliberative Committee, the advising may be shared with PhD professors from other programs or institutions, provided that the student's research is appropriately aligned.
