The research activities of the Postgraduate Program in Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro – PROARQ/FAU-UFRJ began in 1987,when the first cohort of the Master's in Architecture was launched. Since then, the program has been restructured to meet contemporary research demands, with a focus on staying aligned with advancements in production and the evolution of knowledge in the field of architecture. The Doctoral Program in Architecture was introduced in 2003, followed by the Professional Master's in Design and Heritage in 2013. However, in 2023, this program became independent from PROARQ, with its own regulations and faculty, and was renamed the Postgraduate Program in Design and Heritage (PGPP).
RATING 6
The Academic Master's and Doctoral Programs in Architecture received a rating of 6 from CAPES in 2017, following the 2013–2016 quadrennial evaluation. This is the highest rating attained among academic Master's and Doctoral programs in the field of Architecture and Urbanism at the time, designating PROARQ as a Program of Excellence, a title granted only to programs rated 6 or 7.
In 2022, after the 2017–2020 quadrennial evaluation, PROARQ’s rating of 6 was reaffirmed by CAPES, underscoring its exceptional performance.
