11th PROARQ RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM – DIALOGUES IN REMOTE SPACES

The Research Colloquia of PROARQ/UFRJ (Graduate Program in Architecture at UFRJ), held since 2009, are characterized by promoting the integration and articulation of different experiences and knowledge generated by professors, researchers, and students. Each edition of the Colloquium aims to disseminate the activities developed by Research Groups and to encourage students to present their research at various stages of development. It also fosters debate on the research landscape with other scholars, research groups, and professionals in architecture, urbanism, and related fields.

In 2020, to face the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 11th PROARQ Research Colloquium adopted an adapted, dynamic, and flexible format supported by an online platform. The objectives were renewed; the focus shifted toward maintaining consistent interaction and communication with the PROARQ community, fostering post-pandemic reflections and the reinterpretation of ongoing research, sustaining student engagement through the appreciation and dissemination of their work, and promoting and publicizing the dissertations and theses defended during the suspension of in-person activities.

The 11th PROARQ Research Colloquium 2020 – Dialogues in Remote Spaces was held over the months of July, August, September, and October in three distinct phases:

Janela.S

Consisted of weekly debate panels and lectures held entirely online (via Zoom with YouTube streaming). Each session featured two activities, each lasting an hour and a half (2:30–4:00 PM and 4:30–6:00 PM), covering different themes. These were organized and structured by PROARQ's Research Groups and the Professional Master’s in Design and Heritage.

Percurso.S

A virtual seminar (via Zoom with YouTube streaming) concentrated into a single week, featuring student research presentations, guest lectures, and talks by PROARQ faculty, with publication of proceedings. All PROARQ students interested in participating were invited to submit their abstracts. The submission period was open from July 13 to September 8.

Cenário.S

A one-day Virtual Symposium (via Zoom and YouTube) including debates, roundtables, and working groups aimed at producing a synthesis document of the colloquium to guide PROARQ’s actions in a post-pandemic scenario.
