Architecture: "Follows Fish Conference"

14-03-2025

PROARQ presents the lecture Architecture Follows Fish by André Tavares, which will be moderated by João Masao Kamita on March 20th at 1:30 PM in the Paulo Santos Auditorium.

Architecture Follows Fish takes place in the North Atlantic, and its protagonist is the fish. In this book, architect and author André Tavares explores the notion of fish architecture, a concept coined to describe architectural practices generated by fishing. To encompass the scope of fish architecture and establish the connections between marine ecology and architectural practice, the book shifts across continents, centuries, and species. Fisheries are unique, and this book sheds light on that singularity through a compelling narrative and rich iconography.

André Tavares (Porto, 1976) is an architect with a PhD from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, where he is a Coordinating Researcher and leads the Fishing Architecture project, funded by the European Research Council. Since 2006, he has been the coordinator of Dafne Editora, an independent publishing house based in Porto.

Organized by LANA PROARQ:
Ana Paula Polizzo, Gustavo Rocha-Peixoto, and Lis Pamplona.
