The Igreja Matriz Nossa Senhora do Pilar is located in the municipality of Duque de Caxias and is part of the region of the Baixada Fluminense in the State of Rio de Janeiro -Brazil. Listed in 1938, by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute, with construction dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. The Church of Pilar, was the scene of major events in history such as the opening of the gold path in the 18th century and became an important point of recognition. Thiswork aims to analyze the historical context of the Church, in addition to understanding all the main events that have occurred in it until the present day, among them the traditional Pilgrimage of Pilar, an event that brings together several faithful outside the church in an act of faith and devotion to Our Lady of Pilar. Analyzes were carried out in the surroundings to understand the study space, in addition to understanding the various transformations undergone over time. After the analysis, a project was proposed for the surroundings of the Church, in order to meet the needs of the population.
