The Brazilian Cultural Heritage of Science and Health has a notorious architectural collection and marks important advances in the country's history. With the constant change in the dynamics of the city, the preservation of health buildings is challenging due to the difficulty of adapting the built environment to contemporary needs. Knowledge about the pertinent aspects that make up the soundscape is of paramount importance for the preservation of the historic building, as they integrate the ambiences of places of memory, influencing the experience of the place. It is noteworthy that there is a lack of studies on acoustics and its acts in listed properties. In view of this, the general objective of the work is to evaluate and proportions to improve the acoustic comfort of the Figueiredo de Vasconcellos Pavilion, a building belonging to the eclectic architectural ensemble listed by IPHAN, located on the campus of Manguinhos of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Originally built to house the Official Medicines Service in 1922, it has undergone formal and usage changes throughout history, transforming laboratories into office rooms. Through qualitative and quantitative methodology, an intervention project is proposed, subsidized by objective discoveries, by the evaluation of acoustic comfort, and subjective, by the perception of users of the Pavilion, with solutions for noise control and, consequently, for the valorization of the built heritage.
Keywords: Heritage preservation. Cultural heritage of science and health. Acoustic requalification.
