The main point of this dissertation is the creation of a Visitor Center for the “Quinta da Boa Vista” Municipal Park, with the intention to build up its recognition as a historical and cultural heritage and to explore the educative and communication potential of architecture. An important connector between existing cultural heritage and users, the Visitor Center designed with new architecture and equipped with contemporary technologies will integrate a participatory museum system. Thus, the Center will allow a greater knowledge of the historical evolution of the Park, greater inclusion of visitors and social return. The establishment of the Visitor Center on available land, formerly occupied by the former army stables, located near the southwest limit of the park, is part of the proposal that will requalify the existing space with the creation of a new access, allowing effective connection with the surroundings – specifically with the Maracanã Sports Complex. The rationale and elaboration of this project proposal was based on research on the historical, cultural and social contexts and on the current demands of the place and the local community. It is also considered the need to enhance the gardens of “Paço de São Cristóvão”, former residence of the Royal and Imperial Family of Brazil, and to highlight the recovery of the National Museum, whose main building and collections were almost completely destroyed by a fire in September, 2018.
