Colégio Pedro II was founded on December 2, 1837, in honor of the Emperor-Child, being the first official secondary school in Brazil. Currently the building where the schoolwas originally installed houses one of its fourteen campus, the Colégio Pedro II - CampusCentro, and it is an important building located on Marechal Floriano Avenue, having both an architectural and historical wealth. In 1983, the property was listed by the Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional. However, despite its great relevance, the building is facing major problems related to its physical structure, due to the scarcity of preservation measures and various transformations undergone over its almost 300 years. Thus, it is imperative to build instruments to safeguard the building and its values, guided by the premise of preserving the built heritage, allied to sustainable development and the efficient management of public heritage. The general objective of the research consists in the preservation of the building for future generations, maintaining the physical conditions of the building adequate for the functioning of the school, through the development of a conservation plan that guides general measures to safeguard the building. The main methods used in the work consisted of a bibliographic survey, based on a systematic review of the literature regarding the main themes addressed in the research, consultation of collections that could contain information about the building and architectural surveysfor measurements and analyzes. Thus, the proposal for the Conservation Plan presented seeks to consolidate a 'didactic' material to be used in practice by the institution's management, in orderto provide its safeguard in accordance with the principles of preservation of material cultural heritage, established by IPHAN.
