A simple construction in taipa, located in a peripheral district between São Pedro da Aldeia and Cabo Frio, RJ, the Casa da Flor (1912) gained notoriety for the unusual and surprising ornamentation engendered by its author: for 62 years (1923-1985) Gabriel Joaquim dos Santos, from every mountain of despised materials, covered his house with panels and ornaments, giving rise to complex compositions of disconcerting beauty. For its character and artistic power, the work was historically approximated to the production of figures such as the catalan Gaudí and naturally inserted among the Fantastic Architectures (FUÃO, 1999; ZALUAR, 2012), finally being declared a cultural patrimony by INEPAC (1983) and, more Recently, by IPHAN (2016). Although matter has been a preponderant subject, the legacies shared between the work of Gabriel and his social space (SOUZA, 2013) rooted in the Jesuit village that originates the city (1617- 1877), are eloquent: a black man, born still in 1892, Gabriel was a rural worker and laborer of the inclement routine of the sea salt extraction, motors of the local economic elite in the period. Descendant of the last generation of enslaved blacks and village indians, it is in this context that heproduces his work, pointing it as an argument of the "force of poverty" (SANTOS apud ZALUAR, 2013, min. min. 6:00 – 6:06). Faced with such indications and admitting that values are the result of an agreement between different people, and capable of transformation (MUÑOZ VIÑAS, 2003), the present work moves from the matter and dedicates itself to the matrix of values that connects Casa da Flor and territory, in the seeks to supply a more comprehensive, integrated and flexible preservation strategy, as the work requires, through the sewing of its immaterials.
