Building Open Space systems - methodological assessment and proposition procedures

Coordinated by professor Vera Tangari. This project is linked to the line of research Culture, Landscape and Built Environment, concentration area Quality, Environment and Landscape, of PROARQ-FAU / UFRJ, and continues the knowledge produced by the SEL-RJ group - Research Group on Space Systems Free in Rio de Janeiro, linked to the CNPq Group - Quality of Place and Landscape. Based on the recognition of the importance of the system of building open spaces in the analysis of landscape and urban occupation, we propose to extend our studies in order to offer methodological bases applicable to the evaluation of urban and peri-urban systems of building open spaces and their application to regulatory occupancy instances (planning, design and management). With this new proposal, we intend to reconcile the advances obtained in the academic instances in which the SEL-RJ Group is inserted, in terms of studies, research, publications and master's and doctorate guidelines, with the procedures adopted in public agencies, or under discussion,  involved in the planning, design and management of building open spaces, both public and private. The project in question is configured as a natural follow-up to previous studies and experiences, intending to continue the applicability of the methodology developed by the group's researchers to systematize the study of open spaces, applied to the analysis of municipal master plans, based on previous research approved and contemplated by FAPERJ. This time advances in a new methodological proposal for the evaluation of urban and peri-urban free space systems, as a reference basis for discussing landscape qualification and as a support for the formulation or revision of urban space regulation instruments, in the sense of their planning and management. We seek to apply the methodological framework to the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro and its metropolitan area of influence, considered here as a case study.
