A contemporary architectural intervention in a pre-existence of historical value is an interpretative action that must recognize the transformation of place and meanings in time. This dissertation develops a project based on this premise and poses itself to the specific problem of the case studied: a set of buildings located in Sacadura Cabral street in the port region of Rio de Janeiro. The region has been the subject of recent and rapid transformations, not only the street, the old limit of the sea, and the old buildings that constitute it must be recognized as valuable assets for the patrimony field. Thinking about the city's experience, the empty lots on the street should be occupied in order to respect possible sets and ambiences - as it is in question. In this way the main objective of the work is to design a new architecture that inserts itself in the old pre-existence valuing it and, at the same time, creating new meanings from a dialogue on both aesthetic - morphological and material bases - as conceptual and programmatic. The first and second parts of the work analyze Sacadura Cabral Street in the context of the Port Zone, pointing out the permanences and transformations of the landscape in time, in order to recognize the value and characterize the architectural ensemble in question. From the problematization generated, the third part approaches the project as an interpretation of this context. The project is presenting as a thought that seeks to preserve the visual structure from the viewpoint of the street, but creates a completely new relationship from the insertion of new elements that enable not only visual that value the architectural set and the landscape as patrimony, but the connection between neighboring roads creating the possibility of flows that assume a more public character. Also in search of valuing the cultural activities in Morro da Conceição, we propose the program of an artistic residence, which includes temporary housing, production areas, exhibitions and events, as a way to involve and exchange with the community through actions educational and participatory.
